McGillis and Izou were cursed with matching sharp edges to cut at each other from the get-go: the friend-betrayer and the betrayed friend. From Izou's palace on, McGillis knew that Izou would come to hate him eventually - so when an opportunity to accelerate the process presented itself, he self-destructively jumped at it and dared Izou to come kill him. And ironically, the intensity of barely-presented murder got them stuck on each other's minds ever since.
Thanks to the interference of dreamsharing, Izou was forced to confront that McGillis is a threedimensional person with his own reasons and actually reached out to try and gain a deeper understanding. For this, he was rewarded with McGillis opening up to him - even if to McGillis it took the form of an 'experiment' to see how far a bond could actually go.
McGillis has always wanted the bond between him and Izou to shatter, to be proven right so that he could retreat to a solitary existence once more. Instead, their relationship has stabilized. What started as projection and obsession has turned into a genuine enjoyment for each other's company, turned into an intense sexual fling, and finally turned into a real relationship.
From the start, they have both conceptualized their relationship more as violent obsession than as love, but for McGillis this is shifting. He has decided that he's going to build his new life with Izou by his side and is exploring a more concentional angle of romance. Though McGillis still fears that this may crumble to dust beneath him, he no longer wants to be proven right on his worst predictions.
In the end, Izou is the man who got through to him. Izou could cut to the bone, both literally and emotionally, because he wears his heart on his sleeve in a way that is totally opposite to McGillis. Though McGillis initially struggled with respecting this way of living, he's now realizing how well Izou balances him out. He wants Izou to live to his full potentially, shining beautifully in his own strength.

Celeste is a strange mirror to McGillis. Though their circumstances are very different now, and their surface personalities diverge a good bit, the two of them share traumatic experiences, workaholic tendencies, and a desire to keep everyone at arm's length. Over time McGillis has learned to embrace this mirror instead of shying away from it.
Having someone in his life who understands comes with its own kind of relief. Celeste is the only person McGillis ever voluntarily opened up to about his traumatic past, and he has not regreted that decision. Their subdued sense of understanding is balm on wounds he thought had closed long ago.

An extremely unwordly boy who does not possess what is usually thought of as common sense. Soujuurou is more than meets the eye when it comes to strength and deadly competence. He is somebody to keep an eye on for that reason, but his personality does appear to be fully genuine. His opinions on social ills are astoundingly eloquent. The two of them have had several arguments in palaces, but to McGillis' surprise nothing has ever escalated. Tentatively, it seems like they're cool.
